Applicant Criteria and Process -- NOTE: The 2026 Application Period is March 1 to March 31.

APPLICATION REQUIREMENTS:

• Must be a member in good standing of the Seattle-Perugia Sister City Association for at least one year prior and one year after the application period (on or prior to March1, 2025 and March 1, 2027) before submitting an application

If you are not a member or if your membership has lapsed, please JOIN / RENEW so that you may qualify in the future. One year’s prior membership is required prior to applying. The annual application period is typically the month of March so to apply in 2026, membership must have been in place since March 1, 2025.

2. Must be at least 18 years old and a U.S. citizen
3. Must have a valid passport prior to travel; valid at least 3 months beyond your planned departure from the EU. (NOTE: It is highly recommended that your passport be valid at least 6 months beyond your planned departure; this is a requirement of some airlines)
4. Must have basic knowledge of the Italian language; demonstrated ability of basic conversation skills (not recommended for entry-level)
5. The scholarship must be completed within the calendar year it was awarded.
6. To further our mission, must commit to supporting SPSCA through volunteering for a minimum of one year after attending Università per Stranieri.

THE SCHOLARSHIP PACKAGE INCLUDES:

1. One-month’s tuition at the University for Foreigners (Università per Stranieri)
2. A 500-euro stipend to help offset travel / living expenses which will be distributed to the scholar following completion of the 15th day of classes

SCHOLARSHIP RECIPIENTS WILL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR:

1. Travel arrangements and expenses
2. Living arrangements and expenses during the month of study
3. Textbook(s)
4. Passport and any other required travel documents
5. Individual tax consequences related to receipt of the scholarship package

HOW TO APPLY:

1. Qualified candidates must complete the application form and submit it online or send via email per the instructions provided.
2. Submit your scholarship application one of two ways:

• Complete the online application form, or
• Download the PDF version, complete it, and follow the instructions on the form to submit it.

SCHOLARSHIP AWARD:

The SPSCA Scholarship Committee will review all applications received by the designated deadline, select candidates to move forward in the interview process and award up to four scholarships. Recipients will be notified before the end of April.
